At least six people have been confirmed dead following a devastating landslide in Longsheng County, located in China’s Guangxi region, according to Xinhua News Agency on Monday.
The incident occurred on Friday and rescue teams are still searching for two people who remain unaccounted for.
Earlier this month, four additional deaths were reported in the same region as a result of extreme rainfall. Meteorological authorities have warned that southern China is expected to experience the heaviest rainfall of the year so far in the coming days.
The Chinese Meteorological Administration has issued alerts for multiple provinces, including Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Fujian, urging residents to remain highly vigilant from Tuesday through Thursday.
Authorities have also extended warnings to Guizhou province in the country’s southwest, where four people died last week due to landslides in the villages of Changxi and Guwo.
