At least eight people were killed and nineteen others injured on Monday after a car explosion in central New Delhi, according to local authorities.
The blast occurred near the historic Red Fort in one of the capital’s densely populated districts.
Emergency services and police rushed to the scene immediately after the explosion, which caused significant damage to nearby vehicles and surrounding property. Firefighters brought the flames under control while rescue teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials from the Delhi Fire Service confirmed the death toll based on hospital reports, while police stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the explosion. Preliminary assessments suggest the blast originated from within a parked vehicle, though the exact reason has not yet been established.
