At Least 6 Kileld, Dozens Injured in Istanbul Explosion (Video)

A powerful explosion rocked Istanbul on Sunday and left at least six people dead and 35 others injured, according to the local governor.

In a video posted on Twitter, you can see flames and a loud bang heard as pedestrians were seen turning and running away.

The blast took place shortly after 4:00 pm (1300 GMT) in the famous Istiklal shopping street. The avenue, lined by shops and restaurants, is usually crowded as it's popular with tourists and locals.

Furthermore, the Kasimpasa police station affirmed that all crews were at the scene. However, it did not provide any further details.

The cause of the explosion was not clear yet.

"There was a loss of life and injuries," Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said on Twitter, adding that the explosion occurred around 4.20 p.m. local time (1320 GMT).
