Today, Wednesday, sources in the US Congress revealed that at least 4,100 US citizens are in Afghanistan, amid attempts to evacuate them.

The United States has already evacuated nearly 4,400 Americans, the source said according to CNN.

US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, is set to speak about US efforts to evacuate Americans after US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday he had asked him to provide the public with "an update and a detailed report on exactly how many Americans are still in Afghanistan, how many we've evacuated and what is our expectation."

The White House announced on Wednesday that the US and its allies have evacuated more than 19,000 people from the Afghan capital of Kabul, during the past 24 hours.

In a statement, the white house added that nearly 82,300 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan since August 14.
