At least 33 people have been killed in an armed attack in northwest Burkina Faso, according to local authorities.
Western media quoted the authorities as saying that gunmen attacked civilians in the village of "Yolo" in the northwest of the country, and the "initial death toll" as a result of the attack was "33 people."
The sources added to the agency that the attackers were heavily armed and carried out the attack on motorcycles and fired "indiscriminately."
Governor of Boucle du Mouhoun Region Babou Pierre Basing said security measures had been beefed up in the area.
Previously, the newspaper "Burkina 24", quoting a statement by the Burkinabe army, reported that 33 soldiers were killed in the north of the country as a result of a terrorist attack.
According to the statement, a military detachment was subjected to an intense attack in the province of Gourma province (eastern region).
Burkina Faso authorities announced, in April, a general mobilization to combat extremist militants, and thus the country in the African Sahel region is trying to contain and repel the attacks that have continued since 2015.
