At least 18 civilians were killed on Saturday by armed gunmen in a village in central Mali, according to eyewitness reports.
Three village residents reported that jihadists opened fire on villagers approximately three kilometers from Diallassagou. The provisional toll stands at 18 dead and 21 injured.
A police source and a local official confirmed the attack, mentioning a death toll of 19.
Mali has been plagued by attacks from Islamist insurgents targeting government forces and civilians.
These assaults include bombings, attacks on military camps and cities, ambushes on security patrols on rough roads, and car bombings.
Such confrontations often result in significant civilian casualties, both killed and injured.
