According to local media, a road accident in northwest Pakistan resulted in at least 17 fatalities, including women and children, and two other injuries.

On Thursday evening, a truck and a passenger van collided head-on on the Indus Highway close to the Kohat Tunnel toll plaza as they were travelling from Lakki Marwat city to Peshawar, the provincial capital of the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

According to the Express Tribune, when police and emergency personnel arrived on the scene of the collision, they transported the injured and deceased to a hospital in Kohat.

The severity of the collision, which local police said appeared to be caused by the truck's brake failure, left the majority of the bodies beyond recognition.
