Malawi is reeling after four days of heavy rainfall and flash floods that have claimed at least 13 lives, the government reported Thursday.
The Disaster Management Department said it received preliminary reports from 16 districts across the country. Authorities confirmed that nearly 9,600 families have been affected by the storms and flooding.
Twelve temporary shelters have been set up across six districts, and relief efforts are underway, with aid being distributed to displaced and affected residents.
Officials warned that more damage could be reported as assessments continue, urging communities in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.
