At Least 11 Killed in India Road Accident

At least 11 people were killed in the Indian city of Bhopal after a collision between a bus and an SUV, authorities announced on Friday. 

The accident took place between Gudgaon and Bhaisdehi in the very early morning on Friday, according to sources.

"All those who died were traveling in the SUV, while the bus driver was injured and has been admitted to a hospital. There was a gory sight at the site of the accident as gas cutters had to be used to retrieve the dead bodies from the mangled remains of the SUV," the police told Xinhua over the phone. 

On his part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh. 

Taking to Twitter, Modi's office shared: "Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident in Betul, MP. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured"
