"The war in Ukraine will worsen the suffering of millions of people by driving up food and fuel prices. The people of the Sahel deserve our support. They cannot be forgotten," Guterres added.
Over 2,980 civilians have been killed and 2,651 wounded in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian war, according to the United Nations (UN).
The agency noted that it was only the data that has been officially documented and the actual number of casualties might exceed this statistic by several times.
In the same vein, the UN had estimated that around 1,982 civilians died in Ukraine since the beginning of the war in late February. The dead included 511 men, 323 women, 34 girls, and 56 boys, as well as 72 children and 986 adults whose gender is not yet known. Another 2,651 people were wounded.
