The United States European Command (EUCOM) has confirmed that approximately 80,000 US service members are currently stationed across Europe, with force levels regularly adjusted in response to evolving global security conditions.

Speaking to TASS, a EUCOM official said around 38,000 personnel are based in Germany under permanent and rotational deployments, with key installations located in Wiesbaden, Rhein-Pfalz, Stuttgart, and Bavaria.

The official stressed that troop numbers fluctuate on a monthly basis due to scheduled exercises, rotations, and operational requirements, noting that the US continuously reassesses its military posture in coordination with NATO allies.

He added that Washington works closely with the NATO to maintain a balanced deterrence and defense posture, with allied forces contributing significantly to collective security across the region.

US forces in Europe are routinely deployed as part of ongoing training operations and strategic readiness missions, with adjustments reflecting both regional developments and broader geopolitical shifts.

The confirmation comes amid renewed political debate in Washington over the future of US force levels in Europe. In late April, US President Donald Trump signaled that his administration was considering a possible reduction in troop numbers stationed in Germany, with similar reviews reportedly extending to Italy and Spain.

According to reports, the proposal has prompted concern within the Pentagon and among defense officials, who are assessing the potential scale and strategic implications of any drawdown.

Germany currently hosts the largest concentration of US troops in Europe, making it central to NATO’s forward defense structure.
