Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said today, Wednesday, that Armenia had to sign an agreement to end the war in the Nagorno-Karabakh region to avoid a military collapse.

In a live broadcast on his Facebook page, Pashinyan  added:"If the fighting continued, there was a very high probability that Stepanakert, Martuni, Askeran would have fallen. Subsequently, thousands of our soldiers could be surrounded, that is, a collapse would have happened. We had to sign that agreement."

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on, Monday, that the Azerbaijani and Armenian forces will remain on the positions they currently hold after signing an agreement to end the war between the two countries.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia will stay on the positions they hold, along the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the corridor linking Nagorno-Karabakh with the Republic of Armenia, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is being deployed,” Putin stressed, speaking about a joint statement signed with the Azerbaijani president and the Armenian prime minister.

Putin added that the agreements would create conditions for a long-term settlement of the crisis in Karabakh in a manner that serves the interests of the two peoples.

“We believe that the achieved agreements will create necessary conditions for a long-term and full-fledged settlement of the crisis around Nagorno-Karabakh on a fair basis and in the interests of the Armenian and Azerbaijani people,” Putin said.

“A complete ceasefire in Karabakh will take effect at 00:00 Moscow time on November 10,”Putin revealed.
