Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan discussed the latest situation in Nagorno-Karabakh with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu in Moscow, according to the Press office of military administration.
"Harutyunyan, who is currently visiting Russia, discussed the latest developments in Nagorno-Karabakh in a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu," the administration's statement said.
On Saturday, the Russian army reported a breach in the ceasefire deal, which ended the battles between Azerbaijan and Armenia in November over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, according to Sky News Arabia website.
The Russian Defense Ministry, which deployed peacekeepers in the region, said in a statement, “A violation of the ceasefire agreement was reported on December 11 in the Hadrut region.”
These statements come shortly after the Armenian army announced “attacks” from Azerbaijan on the two villages, which remained under the control of the forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
On its part, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense condemned Armenian “provocations”, stressing that “appropriate countermeasures” will be taken.
A spokesman for the Russian peacekeeping forces confirmed “exchanges of fire with automatic weapons”, telling the Ria Novosti press agency that requests to respect the ceasefire had been sent to both parties.
