Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has submitted his resignation, according to a statement on his official website.
"After thinking for a long time, I have decided to resign from the post of President of the Republic after working actively for about four years," the statement read.
It is worth mentioning that Sarkissian was in a standoff with Prime Minister (PM) Nikol Pashinyan, last year over several issues, including the dismissal of the head of the armed forces.
