During his working visit to the Egyptian capital Cairo to attend the opening ceremony of the Egyptian grand museum , Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with UNESCO Director-General-elect Khaled Al-Anani.
At the start of the meeting, the President congratulated the Secretary-elect on assuming the high and responsible position and expressed hope that the cooperation between Armenia and UNESCO will continue to grow closer.
“We pay special attention to our cooperation with UNESCO, also conditioned by the issues of preserving and protecting the Armenian cultural and historical heritage. I also assure you that Armenia is ready to support your initiatives aimed at strengthening and expanding UNESCO’s activities,” the President noted.
Khaled Al-Anani thanked for the reception and noted that he had visited Armenia three times and had warm impressions of our country, as well as expressed confidence that he would continue active cooperation.
During the meeting, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of preserving the history of mankind, historical, cultural and spiritual heritage and passing it on to future generations. In this context, the parties agreed that culture and education play a key role in the development of societies, strengthening mutual understanding and solidarity between peoples.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that through education and culture it is possible to form an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect, which in turn becomes the basis for the establishment of a culture of peace.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the initiatives implemented under the auspices of UNESCO are of great importance from the point of view of preserving world peace and human values, and Armenia is ready to make its contribution to this process.
