The Embassy of Armenia in Cairo hosted a special event Thursday attended by Armenia’s ambassador to Egypt, Armen Sarkissian, to present preparations for the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), scheduled to be held in Yerevan from Oct. 19 to 30, 2026.

Speaking at the event, Sarkissian underscored the importance of the conference in advancing global efforts to protect biodiversity, emphasizing Armenia’s commitment to hosting a distinguished and impactful edition of the summit.

Held at the embassy’s premises in Cairo’s Zamalek district, the gathering brought together journalists, environmental experts and members of the diplomatic corps, highlighting key aspects of Armenia’s readiness to host the international event.

During a presentation, embassy officials unveiled the conference’s visual identity, describing its symbolic and aesthetic elements as a reflection of Armenia’s dedication to nature conservation and global biodiversity protection. Organizers also outlined logistical arrangements for receiving international delegations, stressing Yerevan’s preparedness to host the high-level gathering.

The event is part of Armenia’s broader efforts to engage international stakeholders in the lead-up to COP17, building on the momentum of previous conferences aimed at raising awareness and strengthening global action on biodiversity.

The evening concluded with a reception, offering attendees an opportunity to exchange views on shared environmental challenges and explore avenues for cooperation ahead of the 2026 summit.
