Today, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian accused Turkey of attempting to execute ethnic cleansing against Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh disputed region.

In an interview with "Sky News Arabia", Sarkissian said that Azerbaijan "started the war there," adding: "the conflict will not be resolved by force. There is no military solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis."

Sarkissian explained that the battles became entangled due to the intervention of a third party, "and talking here about Turkey and its intervention made circumstances more complicated."

The president continued: "Ankara has sent thousands of mercenaries to support Azerbaijan, most of them are extremist terrorists. This did not only outraged the Armenians, but it will alienate many regional countries, such as Russia and the international community."

The president added, "Turkey is trying to conduct ethnic cleansing operations against Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh. We do not want another Syria in the region where everyone will intervene and the matter will be devastating."

He highlighted the possibility to reach a peaceful solution in Karabakh, noting that "when Turkey withdraws, the peacemakers in the region will ask for a ceasefire, rebuild confidence between the parties and return to negotiations."

He concluded that "The humanitarian crisis is vast and great and people's lives are at stake. Civilians are being killed on both sides, and this will get out of control."
