Armenia declared that it is hoping to reach a peace agreement with Azerbaijan in the upcoming period, in addition to establishing bilateral diplomatic relationships, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday.

The relationships between both countries were tensioned due to a conflict between Azerbaijan and separatists in Nagorno-karaba. Baku succeeded to retain its control over the region, driving its 120,000 ethnic Armenians to have an exodus to Armenia.

"In the coming months (we hope) we shall sign with Azerbaijan an agreement on peace and the establishment of diplomatic relations," Pashinyan said at a forum in Tbilisi. The forum was also attended by Azerbaijani counterpart.

On his side, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said that his country is committed to peace since 2020, but achieving any progress depends on Armenia.
