Argentina has expelled Iran’s senior diplomat from the country, escalating tensions between Buenos Aires and Tehran as diplomatic relations deteriorate.
The Argentine Foreign Ministry confirmed that Iran’s chargé d’affaires was ordered to leave within 48 hours, with officials stating the diplomat departed in compliance with the directive issued earlier this week.
The move follows Argentina’s recent decision to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, a step that allows authorities to impose financial sanctions and seize assets linked to the group within the country.
The designation has significantly strained relations, prompting a strong response from Iran, which condemned the decision as unacceptable and influenced by US policy.
Argentina, a key regional ally of the United States, has taken a firmer stance against Iranian-linked entities in recent months, signaling a shift toward tighter security and financial enforcement measures.
The latest development highlights growing geopolitical tensions as countries reassess diplomatic and security ties in response to evolving global conflicts.
