Arab Parliament Supports Libyan Talks in Morocco, Switzerland

President of the Arab Parliament Mishaal Al-Salami announced that he supports the Libyan-Libyan dialogues in Morocco and Switzerland and stressed the need to reach a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis in Libya away from foreign interference.

In a statement issued Friday, Salami welcomed the results of the dialogue between the delegations of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State, which concluded its work on Thursday, September 10 in the Moroccan city of Bouznika.

The Kingdom of Morocco hosted the talks in order to advance the path of a political solution to the crisis in Libya.

The statement also lauded the outcomes of the dialogue which ended with an agreement on the criteria and mechanisms related to assuming sovereign positions in the state institutions with the aim of unifying them, in addition to agreeing on clear criteria to eradicate corruption, end the state of institutional pision in the Libyan state, and emphasize the seriousness of foreign interventions in fueling the conflict.

The president of the Arab Parliament also welcomed the results of the consultative meeting held in Switzerland held from 7 to 9 September between the Libyan parties.

“I welcomed the talks’ outcomes which resulted in agreeing to hold presidential and parliamentary elections within 18 months in accordance with a constitutional framework to be agreed upon, as well as restructuring the Presidency Council and establishing a government,” the statement read.

Moreover, Salami highly valued the appreciated efforts made by the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco to host “the dialogue meeting between the Libyan brothers and its willingness to host the upcoming dialogues and to provide the appropriate conditions for a comprehensive settlement of the crisis in Libya.”
