The Arab Parliament (AP) called on the European Parliament (EP) not to insert itself in the crisis in relations between Morocco and Spain, and emphasised that the crisis between the two countries is a bilateral crisis that can be solved through diplomatic means and direct bilateral negotiation and it is needlessly to turn it into a Moroccan-European crisis.

This position comes in light of the European Parliament's discussion on 10 June 2021 of a draft resolution containing in its initial draft a criticism of the policies of Morocco on the issue of illegal migration.

The Arab Parliament demanded its European counterpart to refrain from taking any stance that would exacerbate tension and to call on both parties to solve the crisis in an entirely bilateral framework.

The Arab Parliament added that Morocco proved very keen to calm this tension through many constructive initiatives, the latest of which was the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, on 1 June 2021, regarding the return of all unaccompanied Moroccan minors who entered illegally the European Union.

The facts have demonstrated that the Kingdom of Morocco is playing its role in combating terrorism, illegal migration and human trafficking, in fulfillment of the principles and requirements of its partnership with the European Union and with its regional environment. Statistics indicate that over the past three years, Morocco has defeated 14,000 attempts of illegal migration, dismantled 8,000 cells for smuggling gangs, defeated 80 attempts of the porosity of borders and exchanged with the Spanish security authorities more than 9,000 security information to control common borders.

On this occasion, the AP valued the significant efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in combating illegal migration notably towards Europe, which have contributed to the noticeable downturn in this phenomenon over recent years.

The Arab Parliament reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco and all its measures against all that offends it or represents an interference in its internal affairs.
