President of the Arab Parliament, Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved without a comprehensive and just resolution to the Palestinian issue — specifically through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Al-Yamahi made the remarks during the opening of the Arab Parliament’s plenary session, held Monday in Baghdad, hosted by the Iraqi Council of Representatives and attended by Dr Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament.
He warned of the grave consequences of the ongoing genocide being waged by the “occupying entity” against the Palestinian people, denouncing the international community’s continued silence as equally heinous as the crimes themselves.
Al-Yamahi praised Iraq’s hosting of the session and the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad, stating that these events symbolise the country's regained leadership role within the Arab system and reflect the security and stability achieved through the sacrifices of the Iraqi people from all walks of life.
Addressing the broader challenges in the region, he warned that ongoing crises in several Arab countries continue to deplete national resources and exacerbate the region's struggles. He called for genuine Arab-led solutions, affirming the Arab Parliament’s readiness to engage through parliamentary diplomacy.
Al-Yamahi also urged accelerated action towards completing key Arab economic integration projects, describing economic and development challenges as equally critical as security and political threats — particularly in light of global trade wars and their impact on Arab economies.
He expressed confidence in the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled for May in Baghdad, expressing hope that it would offer a clear roadmap for resolving ongoing Arab crises and advancing economic cooperation.
