The Asian Parliamentary Assembly, at its 13th Plenary, recently held in the Republic of Turkey, approved the granting of observer status to the Arab Parliament, allowing the Arab Parliament to participate in its plenary sessions, with the aim of strengthening relations between the two sides, opening channels for permanent coordination and cooperation on issues of common interest and in the interests of Arab and Asian peoples.

This step was in response to the request submitted by H.E. Mr. Adel bin AbdulRahman AlAsoomi, President of the Arab Parliament to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, as part of his keenness to develop and strengthen parliamentary relations between the Arab and Asian worlds.

In this context, AlAsoomi emphasized that the granting of observer status to the Arab Parliament at the Asian Parliamentary Assembly is harmonious with the nature of the close and distinguished relations between Arab and Asian States, which are based on a long history of joint action, trust and mutual respect, as well as a wide base of common interests and cultural, religious and popular ties, notably since more than half of the Arab States belong to the Asian continent.

AlAsoomi added that the cooperation between the Arab Parliament and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly would contribute to the exchange of experiences between them and to the activation of the role of Arab parliamentary diplomacy in order to ensure further regional and international support for Arab issues.
