The Arab Parliament has voiced its strong condemnation of Ethiopia's continued unilateral actions, particularly after its recent announcement of completing the fourth filling of the Renaissance Dam reservoir.
In an official statement, the Arab Parliament stressed that such violations are in stark contradiction to bilateral and international agreements that regulate the use of Nile waters. The actions also conflict with the laws and conventions governing the use of international rivers and the principles of good neighborliness.
The Ethiopian side has been urged not to procrastinate and to halt its persistent stubbornness. A decade of negotiations has showcased Egypt and Sudan's responsible and balanced positions, reflecting their earnest desire to reach an agreement that considers the interests of all parties involved.
Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Assoumi, the President of the Arab Parliament, reiterated their unwavering support for the water rights of both Egypt and Sudan in the Nile waters. He emphasized that these rights are an integral part of Arab national security and should not be compromised in any form.
The Arab Parliament has called on Ethiopia to respond positively to Egyptian efforts to reach a binding legal agreement for the filling and operation of the Renaissance Dam, ensuring that Egypt and Sudan's water interests are not harmed.
The Parliament also re-emphasized that any unilateral actions will not change the legal and historical nature of the fixed water shares for both Egypt and Sudan in the Nile waters, which are internationally recognized.
Earlier on Sunday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed declared the completion of the massive Renaissance Dam filling on the Blue Nile, which has been a source of tension with both Egypt and Sudan. Ahmed announced with great pleasure on the "X" platform that "the fourth and final filling of the Renaissance Dam has been successfully completed," following two weeks of a new round of negotiations between the three countries.
