The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called Thursday for an immediate de-escalation in Yemen’s Hadramout and Al-Mahra governorates, urging all parties to prioritize national unity over regional interests.
In a formal statement, Aboul Gheit warned that recent developments in the south further complicate the country's protracted crisis and undermine Yemen’s territorial integrity. He specifically urged the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to refrain from actions that threaten stability or impose new "faits accomplis" by force.
The League reaffirmed its support for the legitimate government led by the Presidential Leadership Council, stressing that the "southern issue" must be resolved through comprehensive political dialogue rather than military or unilateral moves. The spokesperson emphasized that a sustainable settlement is only possible by addressing the root causes of the conflict while maintaining a unified Yemeni state.
