The Arab League said media and information literacy has become an urgent necessity amid rapid digital transformations and the growing spread of misinformation, privacy violations and attempts to influence public awareness across societies.
The remarks were delivered by Haider Al-Jubouri, director of the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, on behalf of Assistant Secretary-General Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, during a meeting of experts tasked with implementing the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy at the league’s headquarters in Cairo.
Al-Jubouri said educational media now holds a top priority in joint Arab media action, as it helps develop critical thinking among younger generations and protects them from campaigns targeting Arab identity and social stability.
He stressed the importance of collective Arab cooperation to address negative digital behaviors, including fake news and privacy breaches, and called for integrating media literacy into national policies to promote dialogue, counter hate speech and extremism, and enhance resilience against digital-era challenges.
