Arab League, Shanghai Cooperation Officials Hold Talks

Ambassador Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Manzalawi, Assistant Secretary-General, head of the Political Affairs Sector, met with Mr. Ahmed Said Mirzadeh, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, at the General Secretariat headquarters on 27 August.

The meeting reviewed practical steps for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, signed on 15 September 2022 on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including security and stability, health and epidemic security, culture, science and social development, trade, and economics.

Both sides stressed the importance of coordination between the relevant sectors of the two organisations to open new horizons and advance joint activities serving their common interests. They also exchanged views on key international and regional issues, particularly recent developments in the Middle East.

For his part, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Manzalawi reaffirmed the League of Arab States' commitment to continued cooperation and coordination with the SCO General Secretariat in support of the interests and priorities of both organisations' member states.
