Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of Arab League, is heading to the People's Republic of China today for an official visit lasting several days, at the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
He will participate in a number of events in the capital, Beijing, and other cities.
Jamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the first stop of the visit will be in the capital, Beijing, where Aboul Gheit will participate in the opening session of the Arab-Chinese Civilizations Dialogue Conference, in the presence of Mr. Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and a number of senior officials.
Roshdy added that during the visit, Aboul Gheit will meet with Mr. Meng Shikong, Deputy Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Political Committee of the Central Committee, in addition to prominent members of the Permanent Expert Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress.
These meetings will focus on discussing the trajectory of Arab-Chinese relations, ways to elevate the strategic partnership between the two sides, and strengthening the dialogue between the two civilizations. Aboul Gheit will also meet with the Chinese Foreign Minister and officials in the CPC Central Committee to discuss files of mutual interest.
The official spokesperson explained that Aboul Gheit is scheduled to participate in the celebration organized by the Arab League Mission in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the League's founding, in cooperation with the Center for Public Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange in China.
Roshdy indicated that the second stop of the visit will be Shanghai, China's economic capital. There, the Secretary-General will participate in events organized by Fudan University, which has decided to award him an Honorary Fellowship Certificate.
He will also participate in the economic session of the third session of the China-Arab Development and Governance Forum.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed to establish the "Fudan - Arab League General Secretariat Global Leadership Center," to be signed by Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General, and Mr. Jin Li, President of Fudan University.
