The League of Arab States reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the rights and empowerment of Arab women as the world marked International Women’s Day on Sunday.

In a statement issued from its headquarters in Cairo, the Arab League stressed that supporting women and safeguarding their achievements remain essential pillars for sustainable development and for promoting justice and equality across Arab societies.

The organization highlighted the severe challenges faced by women and girls in conflict-affected areas and under the Israeli occupation, noting that many are exposed to displacement, deteriorating living conditions, limited access to essential services, and heightened risks of violence and exploitation.

The Arab League called for intensified regional and international efforts to protect women in conflict zones and ensure access to humanitarian, health, psychological, and legal support.

It also urged greater inclusion of gender equality in national and regional policies and stronger participation of women in decision-making and peacebuilding efforts across the region.
