The Arab League on Sunday marked the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, calling for stronger international efforts to confront religious hatred, discrimination and negative stereotypes targeting Muslims.

In a statement, the League said the observance, held annually on March 15, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2022 to highlight the need to address all forms of discrimination based on religion or belief.

The organization warned of what it described as a worrying rise in hate speech and discrimination against Muslims in some parts of the world, exacerbated by global crises and conflicts that deepen cultural and religious divisions.

The Arab League urged governments, institutions and civil society to intensify efforts to combat religious hatred and protect freedom of belief while promoting dialogue among cultures and religions.

It also stressed the importance of education and awareness in countering misinformation and stereotypes about Islam, reaffirming its commitment to supporting international initiatives that encourage tolerance, coexistence and mutual respect among peoples and faiths.
