Arab League Launches Preparatory Meetings for 56th Arab Information Ministers Council

The Arab League will begin a series of preparatory meetings on July 12 ahead of the 56th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, scheduled for Sept. 14-15 in Tripoli, Libya, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector Ahmed Rashid Khattabi said Wednesday.

Khattabi said the meetings, held under the directives of Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy, aim to strengthen joint Arab media cooperation and review implementation of decisions adopted during the council's 55th session.

Working groups will discuss combating terrorism through media, supporting the Palestinian narrative, preserving the historical and legal status of Jerusalem, digital sovereignty, and cooperation with global media platforms.

The agenda also includes drafting Arab legislation on digital influencers and online media, reviewing a sustainable development media strategy, and selecting winners of the Arab Media Excellence Award, whose 2026 theme is "Arab Media and Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges."
