The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States – Economic Affairs Sector hosted the Ibn Battuta Award 2025 ceremony, where the Arab Tourism Organisation honoured a distinguished group of influential figures in the field of tourism and travel.

During the event, Dr. Bandar bin Fahd Al Fahid, Chairman of the Arab Tourism Organisation, presented the Ibn Battuta Award to: Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector; Captain Mohamed Alian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EgyptAir; and Major General Mohamed Sharif Salah El-Din, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Authority for Management and Investment.

In his remarks, Ambassador Al-Maliki underscored the vital role played by the Arab Tourism Organisation in fostering collaboration between Arab and international tourism entities, as well as with the private sector, to support member states in achieving economic and cultural development. He also commended the organisation's commitment to raising cultural awareness by highlighting the significance of tourism and travel in bringing nations closer together.

The Arab world commemorates Arab Tourism Day annually on 24 February, a date that marks the birth of the legendary Arab traveller Ibn Battuta.

Renowned for his extensive explorations, Ibn Battuta traversed vast regions across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Iberian Peninsula, leaving behind one of history's most celebrated travel accounts: "A Masterpiece to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Traveling." His unparalleled journeys earned him the title "The Prince of Muslim Travellers," solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest explorers of all time.
