The Arab League hosted its first regional roundtable on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Sustainability today, under the theme "From Innovation to Impact."
The event, organized in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies (AICTO), brought together representatives from Arab nations, specialized organizations, experts, decision-makers, and researchers in the fields of technology and development.
In her opening speech, Dr. Neda Al-Ajizi, Director of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the Arab League, emphasized that the roundtable went beyond a traditional meeting, serving as a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange on leveraging AI for sustainable development goals. She highlighted that AI is no longer a futuristic concept, but a powerful force shaping the present and reengineering the future, placing a shared responsibility on Arab nations to steer this force towards achieving sustainable development.
Dr. Al-Ajizi also extended her gratitude to AICTO, led by Eng. Mohamed Bin Omar, for their effective partnership in organizing the event. She noted that the roundtable was part of the ongoing implementation of the Economic and Social Council's resolution on the "Sustainable Digital Transformation Roadmap 2025-2030," developed by the Arab League’s Sustainable Development Department.
Al-Ajizi stressed that AI is a strategic driver for sustainable development and innovation, provided it is managed and applied responsibly and equitably.
She called for regional and international collaboration, urging participants to engage in constructive dialogue that leads to practical, sustainable solutions for a prosperous and fair future for Arab societies.
