The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on Sunday inaugurated a two-day seminar titled “The Role of the International Criminal Court in Prosecuting Those Responsible for Crimes Committed by the Israeli Occupation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”
The event is organized by the Department of Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories in cooperation with the Arab Center for Legal and Judicial Research.
The seminar, held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, aims to highlight ongoing efforts to hold Israeli officials accountable under international law for crimes committed in the occupied territories.
Ambassador Said Abu Ali, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Department, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who is currently attending a high-level conference on the two-state solution in New York.
In his statement, Abu Ali emphasized that the seminar is part of the Arab League’s continuous efforts to document and expose Israel’s violations and pursue accountability through international justice mechanisms.
He stressed the importance of ending the culture of impunity, implementing rulings of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, and advancing the application of international sanctions.
He also called for intensified political and legal pressure, both through official channels and civil society, to prosecute those responsible for grave violations against Palestinians.
The seminar brings together legal experts, diplomats, and representatives of international and regional organizations.
