The Council of the League of Arab States convened an extraordinary session at the level of permanent representatives on Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters in Cairo, following a request by the State of Palestine and support from member states.
The emergency meeting addressed recent decisions by the Israeli government concerning settlement expansion and policies in the occupied West Bank, which Arab officials described as a dangerous escalation with serious implications for regional stability and the prospects for peace.
Diplomats discussed the legal and political ramifications of the measures, emphasizing adherence to international law, United Nations resolutions, and the two-state solution as the internationally endorsed framework for resolving the conflict.
The session forms part of ongoing Arab diplomatic efforts to coordinate positions and consider collective responses to developments on the ground and to reinforce unified Arab support for Palestinian rights.
