Arab League Highlights Investment in Jerusalem as Key to Resilience at Istanbul Meetings

The League of Arab States reaffirmed its support for East Jerusalem during meetings of the Jerusalem Empowerment Fund in Istanbul, stressing that investment in the city is an investment in its identity and resilience.

Dr. Fayez Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, represented Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit at the Fund’s Board of Trustees meeting on June 26 and the Second International Workshop on Development Investment in Jerusalem.

Addressing participants, Mustafa said Jerusalem faces unprecedented challenges targeting its land, identity and residents, calling for expanded development projects in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment to help Palestinians remain in the city.

He reaffirmed the Arab League’s longstanding position that East Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Palestine and pledged continued coordination with Arab states and international partners to mobilize political and development support for the city.
