The Arab League’s General Secretariat, represented by the Social Affairs Sector and the Department of Social Development and Policies, participated in the 64th session of the U.N. Commission for Social Development held at U.N. headquarters from Feb. 2–6.
In coordination with the League’s New York mission, Jordan and Egypt, the delegation organized a high-level Arab-international event titled “Toward Inclusive Social Development within a Framework of Social Justice,” attended by ministers, senior Arab and international officials and U.N. representatives. The event showcased regional social development efforts, challenges and achievements, and promoted cooperation with U.N. agencies in line with the Doha Political Declaration and the Amman Statement.
The delegation also joined ministerial forums on poverty eradication and resilient social protection systems through 2030. In partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and SESRIC, it co-hosted a side event focusing on policies supporting the social and economic empowerment of persons with disabilities.
