Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy met Monday with Rania Al-Mashat, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), to discuss expanding institutional cooperation and coordinating efforts to advance development priorities across the Arab region.
Fahmy stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between the Arab League and ESCWA, calling for stronger joint mechanisms to support regional development and Arab cooperation.
The two officials agreed to deepen collaboration on key priorities, including digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate action, development financing and implementation of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
They also agreed to hold regular consultations among senior officials and develop a joint action plan to strengthen coordination between the Arab League's political role and ESCWA's technical expertise, while supporting implementation of the Arab Vision 2045, the long-term regional development framework adopted by the Arab Summit.
