Ambassador Majed Abdel Fattah, head of the Arab League mission to the United Nations, said there has been comprehensive international rejection of Israel’s recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” describing the move as a unilateral step lacking any international, strategic, or operational justification.

In a televised interview, Abdel Fattah said the decision was met with widespread official condemnation from various international actors and organizations. He noted that the Arab League’s secretary-general issued a formal denunciation, followed by a resolution from the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives.

He added that the move was also condemned by the chairperson of the African Union Commission, the European Union, a large number of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as other international organizations.

Abdel Fattah warned that the timing of the move makes it particularly dangerous, citing the broader regional and geopolitical implications. He stressed that the step could pose multiple threats, especially in light of its connection to the Palestinian issue.

He pointed to Israeli efforts related to the forced displacement of Palestinians outside their territories, warning that the so-called “Somaliland” could be used as a military or operational base to support Israeli activities in the Middle East.

The Arab League envoy reaffirmed that the international community’s firm rejection reflects respect for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as opposition to unilateral actions that undermine regional stability.
