The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, through its Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, strongly condemned what it described as incursions by extremist Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of Israeli forces.
In a statement, the Arab League denounced the actions and accompanying practices inside the holy site, warning that they constitute a serious escalation and a provocation to the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.
The Secretariat said the incidents represent a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as a breach of the historical and legal status quo governing Al-Aqsa Mosque, which it affirmed is an exclusively Muslim place of worship administered by the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf under the Hashemite custodianship of the Kingdom of Jordan.
The Arab League also expressed concern over continued restrictions on worshippers’ access to the site and measures targeting Waqf employees and mosque guards, warning against attempts to alter the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy places.
