The Arab League on Tuesday strongly condemned the storming of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in Jerusalem by Israel’s national security minister, describing the move as a grave violation of international law.

In a statement issued by its Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Department, the league said the minister oversaw the demolition of facilities inside the UN compound in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, removed the United Nations flag and raised the Israeli flag in its place.

The Arab League said the incident is part of an escalating Israeli campaign aimed at dismantling UNRWA, ending its operations in the occupied Palestinian territories and undermining Palestinian refugees’ rights to return and compensation.

It warned that continued international silence has encouraged Israel to press ahead with what it called a dangerous plan, and urged the global community to move beyond condemnations toward concrete measures, including sanctions, to ensure UNRWA can carry out its UN-mandated mission.
