The Arab League’s General Secretariat, through its Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories sector, strongly condemned recent decisions approved by Israel’s cabinet concerning the occupied West Bank, warning they could alter the territory’s legal and administrative status and escalate annexation efforts.
In a statement, the League said measures such as declassifying land records, facilitating the seizure of private Palestinian property, and transferring planning and licensing powers in Hebron and around the Ibrahimi Mosque to Israeli authorities constitute serious violations of international law, U.N. Security Council resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The organization also warned that increased enforcement over Palestinian buildings in Areas A and B could serve as a pretext for demolitions and confiscations, and expressed concern over potential harm to Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The Arab League urged the international community, particularly the U.N. Security Council, to take immediate action and reaffirmed support for a two-state solution based on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital.
