The Arab League’s Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit on Tuesday strongly condemned Israeli strikes on civilian residential areas in Doha, the capital of Qatar, calling the assault a “blatant violation” of the Gulf nation’s sovereignty.
In a statement, Arab League spokesperson Gamal Roshdy said Israel had claimed responsibility for the attacks, which he described as an unacceptable escalation. He added that since the outbreak of the Gaza war, Qatar — along with Egypt and the United States — had made “sincere and commendable efforts” to mediate a ceasefire aimed at halting what he called Israel’s “war of annihilation” in Gaza.
The statement affirmed the Arab League’s full solidarity with Qatar “in the face of this flagrant aggression” and pledged support for any measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty and security.
Roshdy further stressed that Israel’s actions had “exceeded all recognized international norms and principles of international law,” urging the global community to hold Israel accountable for what he described as its disregard for legal and humanitarian obligations.
