The Secretary-General of Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit strongly condemned the drone attack that targeted the Kadugli Logistics Base of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) in South Kordofan State, Sudan, which resulted in the death and injury of several members of the Bangladeshi Battalion participating in peacekeeping missions.

In a statement, Aboul Gheit considered the targeting of UN forces a serious violation of international humanitarian law and a new war crime, stressing that such attacks undermine efforts to maintain international peace and security and threaten the safety of UN missions operating in conflict zones.

Moreover, the Secretary- General expressed its sincere condolences to the government and people of Bangladesh and to the victims' families, wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and emphasized its appreciation for the crucial role UN forces play under extremely dangerous circumstances.

Moreover, he demanded a serious investigation to hold those responsible for the attack accountable, and called for strengthening the mechanisms for protecting peacekeeping forces and preserving the prestige of international law, thus ensuring that their missions continue without targeting or military extortion.

Aboul Gheit also renewed its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan, and supported efforts aimed at reaching a permanent ceasefire and resuming the political track within the framework of an inclusive, Sudanese-owned process that preserves the country's unity and sovereignty.
