The Arab League's General Secretariat strongly condemned calls by Israeli settler organizations for large-scale incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound during what they describe as the anniversary of the "Temple's destruction," warning that such actions would constitute a dangerous escalation.

In a statement, the League's Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector said the planned incursions violate the historic and legal status quo governing the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and undermine the sanctity of Islamic holy sites. It accused Israeli authorities of facilitating measures aimed at imposing new realities in occupied Jerusalem in breach of international law and relevant U.N. resolutions.

The Arab League held Israel responsible for the consequences of the actions and urged the U.N., the Security Council and UNESCO to take immediate steps to halt the violations, protect the mosque, preserve its legal and historical status, and uphold the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. It also reaffirmed support for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
