Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for a two-week ceasefire, emphasizing that it is a significant step in the right direction that must be upheld and protected from sabotage.
Moreover, Aboul Gheit stressed the necessity of stabilizing the ceasefire and working toward de-escalation to prevent the region from sliding into catastrophic scenarios that threaten regional stability.
He also underscored the importance of Iran ceasing all military aggression against Arab nations, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation, and ensuring the flow of energy supplies.
The Secretary- General further asserted that any future arrangements must take into account the interests and security of the Gulf states.
Furthermore, Aboul Gheit explained that it is natural for the agreement to include a calm on other fronts, pointing to the need to halt Israeli aggression in Lebanon and ensure that military operations do not continue outside the framework of the understandings.
The official spokesperson, Jamal Rushdie, conveyed the Secretary-General's affirmation that regional security is indivisible and that joint Arab cooperation remains the primary pillar for achieving sustainable peace.
