Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, welcomed the framework agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel through American mediation, considering it an important step toward the Lebanese state reclaiming its full sovereignty over its territory and enhancing stability in southern Lebanon.
The Arab League Secretary-General held a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during which he expressed his welcome for reaching the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
Aboul Gheit emphasized that this step represents a significant development regarding the Lebanese state's capability to extend its full sovereignty over its territory and consolidate the presence of its institutions. He considered that the agreement opens the way for a full and final Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, contributing to paving the way for the return of displaced persons to their regions.
Furthermore, he noted that this step would support the Lebanese government's efforts to recover detainees and mobilize international backing for the reconstruction of affected areas in the south.
Aboul Gheit also stressed the continuous support of the Arab League for all steps taken by the Lebanese government to maintain security and stability in the country.
He underlined the importance of consolidating the Lebanese state's sovereignty over its entire territory, which enhances the prospects for political and security stability during the coming phase.
Moreover, The Secretary-General warned against any attempts aimed at obstructing the implementation of the agreement or undermining its chances of success, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining internal cohesion in Lebanon.
He stressed the importance of Lebanese unity and all forces standing behind the state and the government to face current challenges and preserve civil peace.
Aboul Gheit also reaffirmed the Arab League's full solidarity with Lebanon during this critical stage, pointing out the League's readiness to continue supporting and backing Lebanon in facing current challenges, thereby contributing to protecting its stability and safeguarding its national unity.
