Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, has condemned the drone attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates, branding the assault a highly dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and violates international law regarding the protection of civilian nuclear facilities.
Moreover, Aboul Gheit expressed relief following assurances from the UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) that the fire, which broke out in the vicinity of the plant, did not affect the safety of the facility or radiation safety levels.
The Secretary-General also affirmed the Arab League's full solidarity with the UAE in confronting any threats to its security and stability, stressing total support for all measures taken by the nation to maintain its sovereignty and protect its national interests.
The statement noted that targeting civilian nuclear installations poses a direct threat to regional security and demands international action to prevent the recurrence of such attacks, which could carry dangerous repercussions for the entire region.
