The Arab League marked World Arabic Language Day on Dec. 18 with a major celebration emphasizing Arabic as a bridge for cultural dialogue and global communication.
Held at the league’s headquarters in cooperation with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, the event coincided with the anniversary of the U.N. General Assembly decision recognizing Arabic as an official international language. This year’s theme focused on teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, highlighting achievements and future challenges.
The gathering drew diplomats, cultural figures and religious leaders, underscoring growing international interest in the Arabic language. Students from Al-Azhar University representing diverse nationalities also took part, showcasing Arabic’s ability to transcend borders.
Panel discussions addressed Arabic language education worldwide, obstacles facing learners, and the role of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in expanding Arabic’s global reach.
