The Arab League’s Council of Permanent Representatives urged Thursday that the International Criminal Court open an immediate investigation into Israel’s recently enacted law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners, describing it as a war crime that entrenches a system of oppression and apartheid against the Palestinian people.
The council called on human rights and humanitarian organizations to hold Israeli officials accountable in national courts with universal jurisdiction. It also demanded that the UN Human Rights Council’s ongoing fact-finding mission investigate alleged torture, starvation, and inhumane treatment of Palestinian prisoners and gain unrestricted access to Israeli detention facilities.
The council requested the International Committee of the Red Cross intensify its role to ensure immediate access to all Israeli prisons. Additionally, it urged Arab parliaments and international organizations to freeze Israel’s legislative participation in global parliamentary forums and to document violations for potential international legal action.
Arab League representatives said member states should immediately convey these resolutions to capitals and international organizations through diplomatic channels.
